ILA and USMX Reach Tentative Agreement on New Six Year Contract

On January 9th, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) announced they have reached a tentative agreement on a new six-year contract. The current contract will remain in effect until the new agreement is ratified. The specific terms of the deal will be kept confidential until both parties formally approve the agreement. The joint statement is available here.

The ratification process will take as long as necessary, with the ILA's internal procedures expected to take some time. USMX will wait for the ILA's process to conclude before holding its own vote on ratification. It's also important to note that the pay increase for ILA workers will not take effect until the new contract is ratified, providing an additional incentive for the ILA to expedite the process.

In addition to the joint statement from the parties, ILA President Harold Daggett released a statement praising President-elect Trump for playing a pivotal role in securing the deal.

In his statement, President Daggett expressed that the ILA now considers President Donald Trump one of the greatest allies of organized labor and a champion for the working men and women of the country. "He’s a hero to our ILA union and members," said Daggett, adding that President Trump deserves full credit for the successful tentative Master Contract agreement.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden also issued a statement on the tentative agreement, highlighting the importance of the collective bargaining process and commending the ILA for "delivering a strong contract."

Constitution Partners will continue to provide ongoing updates on the agreement as more details are made available.
